SEL Teacher Practices

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a teaching framework through which students gain critical life skills such as responsible decision-making, self-awareness, management of emotions, and empathy. The NoVo Foundation — in partnership with Education First and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors — is supporting school districts and teachers with grants and great information resources (where I come in) devoted to showcasing SEL best practices.

  • Working with development partner Erin Kodama, we created a rich interactive experience that both “makes the case” for SEL as well as providing a library resources developed by teacher awardees. View the site.

  • At the conclusion of the SEL award school year, teachers were asked to provide narrative and photos showcasing the highlights and challenges of implementing SEL in their schools and classrooms—which we then turned into a 110-page hardbound book.
